Prayers of a Child

It all started at 15 months old, when Tyler said “Amen”. Three months later, he started to fold his hands to pray. In another 3 months, he insisted that “Tyler pray”, followed a few weeks later with “Amen, praise the Lord” at the end of every prayer.

Learning to pray is a process, isn’t it? Even as an adult, I’m still learning what prayer is all about. I probably have a lot to learn from Tyler’s simplistic prayers. He says what he means. There’s no extra words. He doesn’t care what anyone around him thinks. It’s all about Tyler talking to God.

Here are some examples of Tyler’s prayers:
Jan. 5, 2011
Tyler and I pray in the car on the way to BSF every week (well, I pray and he promises to sit quietly until I’m done). This particular day, he wanted a turn.
“Dear God. Fank you for BSF. Help Tyler obey. Amen. Praise the Lord.”

March 2011
“Dear God. Fank you for our special day. Amen.”

May 4, 2011
At bedtime, I asked him what he was thankful for.
“for Neena. Amen.”

October 2011
“Dear God. Fank you we do somfing fun. And fank you for puzzles.”

November 2011
“Dear God. Fank you for fings inside and outside and in our garage.” (We’ve determined that he doesn’t know if the garage is outside or inside so it deserves it’s own category.)

February 29, 2012
“Dear God. Fank you that we get to go to BSF. Fank you that Neena is picking me up. Fank you that Garrett got a new house. Fank you for trees.”

April 5, 2012

“Dear God, Fank you we do Bible Study. And fank you for the food we will eat after we do Bible Study. Amen.”

“I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15

Well, I’m thankful that you wrote these little prayers down! Someday he’ll read them in one of his scrapbooks and know how blessed he is to have parents who have taught him that God is alive and accessible! I’m VERY thankful for you and Brian and the amazing parenting skills (and wisdom) that God has given you both. Amen! Praise the Lord!!
